Colorado Homeschool Tutor Needed
by Rob Wood
My name is Rob and I have a twelve year old son named David. He is homeschooled by his mom, by me and his grandma. Its is a real struggle and we are trying to seek better solutions. Currently, Colorado Connections Academy provides his fifth grade curriculum and its very helpful. However, David's ADHD is a daily issue regarding studies and learning and while medication helps, we still feel that we are missing the mark with his education.
Last year, David attended Ute Meadows Elementery here in Littleton. He was fine socially, once we found that his fifth grade teacher had bypassed him in the classroom ...essentially witting him off. This helped the teacher with his daily schedule not having to spend any time or attention on our son. It didn't work well with us. David was on an IEP once we pushed the school hard enough.
I work full time and my wife works thirty hours a week outside the home. I seek to find someone who can help us home school our son.
Thank you for your time and any direction will be helpful.
Littleton, ColoradoHi Rob,
Here is a link to some tutors in your area:
I will also pass along your request to any homeschool groups in your area, etc.
Perhaps switching to a curriculum with a different teaching method might work better
for your son. Time4Learning is a possibility - its an online curriculum. You will find many T4L reviews on our website. I used A World of Adventure successfully with my children - one who struggled with a very short attention span. It is a unit study curriculum, but very easy to use! Each day is completely written out for you; all you need to do is read the lessons to your son. The woman who wrote the curriculum, wrote it for her (at the time) middle-school son; I think your son would really like it. It's very hands-on, simple to teach and perfect for any learning style.
If you have additional questions, please feel free to ask!
When you find a solution, or a tutor, will you come back and update this post? Thanks so much!
(FYI... I removed your address and phone number for privacy. Anyone wanting to contact you can do so by responding to this post or by contacting me. As always, when looking for an adult to care for/work with your child, please use extreme caution - check out the company/professional, ask for references, request a background check, etc. for your child's protection and your peace of mind.)
