Homeschool Days at Colonial Williamsburg
Experience Colonial America at Colonial Williamsburg's Homeschool Days!
A hands-on homeschool field trip must-do is a trip to Colonial Williamsburg. Our family went to Williamsburg in September of 2012, and we had a fabulous time. We spent a few days visiting the numerous, as well as engaging exhibits, demonstrations, and re-enactments, throughout the historical town. I guarantee your family will thoroughly enjoy this fun field trip. We found the re-enactors and various towns people, to be very engaging and talented. At the different demonstrations we attended, the staff took time to let our children watch, explore, and ask questions.
Some time-saving tips for your Williamsburg trip:
Take time to plan your stay before you arrive. You will find schedules for each day on their website, that you can print off. Highlight all the events that you want to attend and then fill in the in-between times by visiting the exhibits and demonstrations you want to see. There is so much to see and do; if this is your first visit, it can be rather overwhelming.
During the year, Colonial Williamsburg designates several weeks just for homeschooling families. In addition to the variety of activities and programming throughout the Historic Area, special programs are scheduled for you, including a variety of
Special discounted rates are available during this period and both groups and individuals are welcome to attend and take advantage of the homeschool rates. You will save 50% or more on tickets. For example: The regular adult admission fee is $24.95 for an one-day ticket, or $31.95 for a multi-day ticket (3 consecutive days); the discounted homeschool tickets prices in 2013, were only $9.50 when purchased in advance, or $12.50 at the door. That's some great homeschool savings!
In the fall, the homeschool experience focuses on government, politics, and the Revolution. In addition, you and your children have the opportunity to participate in exclusive meetings with a Person of the Past.
Spring experiences emphasize domestic life and include opportunities to explore family life, education, and the apprenticeship system. You will find a variety of interactive experiences exclusively for homeschool families, featured daily at the Powell House.
