Christian Light Education's Preschool Beginner's Activity Set
by Priscilla Mumea
We have begun using Christian Light Education's Preschool Beginner's Activity Set this year. I ordered it for my three-year-old so that he would have "real" school books to match his older brother. I was a little skeptical that it would be anything really exciting or fun, based on the simple graphics and monotone outside of the books. However, at $8 for the set of four books, I figured it was worth a try.
My preschooler LOVES these books. He really gets into the characters, Samuel and Sarah. He is excited to draw straight lines to get Samuel and Sarah's toys to their toy box, or curvy lines to draw the path of the bubble they are blowing, etc. In fact, he calls the books his Samuel and Sarah books.
The one downside of these books for me is the length. They are very short. I have been limiting him to a couple pages a day to try to make them last a while. However, this probably keeps them interesting to him anyway.
In order to stretch of the curriculum a little bit I have printed some free work sheets from random sites around the internet and added "Samuel and Sarah" to the directions.
The work starts off easy and gets slightly more difficult as it goes. My little guy has decent fine motor skills, so he hasn't had any problem with the work at all.
Overall, we like these books, and I will plan to use them again for any future preschoolers in my house. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with Christian Light Education's Preschool Beginner's Activity Set, Priscilla! Sometimes it's the simple things - curriculum without all the bells and whistles, that really work. The saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover" rings true again! I appreciate your review. Blessings, Heather :)
