I've used Christian Light Language Arts homeschool curriculum for first, second and third grade, for three different students. I did not use it for my first three students, but discovered it before I began schooling our youngest three.
The first and most apparent aspect is the Light Units. Each year is broken into ten booklets, so the student gets a brand new book every few weeks. My children love nearing the end of each Light Unit, knowing that they get to start a fresh book soon. But that definitely isn't the only thing that we like about this curriculum, as we have tried another that uses the same format.
Christian Light Education is wholly and obviously Christian with a delightfully wholesome feel. There are definite gender-roles for Mom and Dad in the stories, and lots of farm life examples. It is old-fashioned in appearance, but the knowledge imparted is not. The moral lessons sometimes included are not overdone or irritating.
We also enjoy the twice-a-unit review and a bigger end of unit review. There is plenty of opportunity to ingest and master the information, without becoming redundant.
One enjoyable aspect is the Language Arts flows alongside the Reading program; the lessons taught coincide. The stories do at times mention children going to school, something to consider if you are avoiding this.
This curriculum is extremely affordable. Once you buy the teacher's edition, the only cost is that of the Light Units (under three dollars apiece). It is very convenient that you can buy them separately, as you may have a friend who decided it didn't fit for them and you only have to fill in what they consume; or, you may find some of the ten units for sale at a used curriculum site.
There are optional helps which are actually helpful, but those items are very reasonably priced. I highly recommend the word cards and sound slider for the first grade year.
Krista, your review of Christian Light homeschool curriculum is great! When we moved from unit studies into regular curriculum, we used Christian Light because money was tight. I could buy my curriculum in “installments”, instead of paying for the whole year all at once; so nice when you are on a tight budget. To your homeschool success and savings, Heather :)

Former teacher shares why she uses Christian Light Education Sunrise Reading and Language Arts program; read her homeschool review...
I have used Christian Light Education Sunrise Reading and Language Arts program for my daughter for 1st and 2nd grade. We absolutely love this program! It is very thorough and has great wholesome stories which my daughter loves. I loved how this curriculum has a lot of spiral review which helps keep the topics fresh in my daughter's mind. She had to do state testing this year and scored advanced with her English and Language Arts. I also love how affordable this curriculum is - two thumbs up in my opinion!

Beverly,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with Christian Light Education Sunrise Reading and Language Arts program. Other parents, who are considering this affordable homeschool curriculum, will definitely find your post helpful. Congrats on your daughter's testing success - I'm sure the curriculum had something to do with it, but more importantly... the sacrificial love of a devoted mother who willingly gave up her teaching job, to invest in her own daughter's education, growth, and development. Kudos to you! Blessings, Heather :)

How long have you used this curriculum?
We have used these for less than one month.
What grade/s did you use it for?
6th Grade.
Is this curriculum affordable?
Yes it is affordable and can be reused easily.
Do you have any money-saving tips to share?
If you have two children in the same grade, buy one book per subject and allow the children to share. When one is doing Maths, the other can do Social Studies. Just buy two workbooks and save money.
Romans 8:28. God bless you.
