Certified Homeschool Transcript Question

by Clarese North
(Kirkland, WA, USA)

Hi Heather,
You have a great website! My question is... I need to have a "certified transcript" so my son can play football (it's a long story). My first question is, what constitutes a "certified transcript" and yours looks like it is easy to fill in but what do you put in the "type" box?
Thank you,
Clarese

Great Homeschool Transcript Questions
by: Heather

Hi Clarese!
Thanks for the website compliment :) and for posting your questions about creating a transcript for your son.

Definition of Certified:
a. To confirm formally as true, accurate, or genuine.
b. To guarantee as meeting a standard:
c. endorsed authoritatively as having met certain requirements; "a certified public accountant"

Based upon the definitions above, I would say that a certified transcript would be a copy of a student's school record, listing courses, credits, grades, etc. that is issued by the governing authority wherever your child goes to school. If your child is homeschooled, you need to follow your state's laws, but in many/most cases, you are the governing authority of your home school and can legally issue your child's transcript.

You would want to include all the courses your student has taken while homeschooling and organize them according to grade, to show that you have met the requirements for college admissions, etc.

In your case, if it's for a school football program in your district, you would want to create it to reflect the requirements for that school - which would be your state's requirements.

Washington State's required subjects are:
Science, math, language, social studies, history, health, reading, writing, spelling, occupational education and the development of an appreciation of art and music.

Yes, the free homeschool transcript template on our site it very easy to use and fill in. In the "type" box, you will classify your courses using codes like: MA for Math, EN for English, SC for Science, SS for Social Studies, FA for Fine Arts, etc.

You can see a sample home school transcript here, for help.

Thanks for your questions. If you have any others, please feel free to post them, or email me anytime.

To your homeschool success and savings,
Heather :)
