California and Homeschooling Questions

Questions About California and Homeschooling

I live in California and am going to start homeschooling our 4 1/2 year old this year. Two questions:
1. I was advised to not register her schooling until she turns six due to many California state guidelines we'd have to follow if she's under the age of 6. Is this good advice?
2. So if, then, I wait to register with the state when she's six, I will be starting her at a second/third grade level. Is there a problem with initially jumping/skipping grades? In other words, will the state have a concern with a six year old starting in the second/third grade?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi Leslie,
1. Yes, I think waiting to register your daughter until she turns six is good advice. I am moving from Michigan (we don't have to register), to New Hampshire (registering and testing requirements) and we will be waiting to register my son as well.
2. No, I don't think anyone will say anything about a child starting a six year old above Kindergarten. I think you have nothing to worry about.

Have fun and enjoy your homeschooling journey!
Blessings,
Heather
