BJU Press Distance Learning
I have been using BJU Distance Learning since my oldest child was in K5. She is currently in 4th Grade. We have three children who have all used Distance Learning full grade kits for grades K4, K5, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
The first reason we use BJU Distance Learning is about me, the Mom. I do not believe I would be able to homeschool without it. I do not have the patience or organizational skills to homeschool any other way. I also want to be certain my children are learning what they should (and more) for their ages and grade levels, and BJU press DL does that for sure. I also do not enjoy shopping around and trying out different curriculum and tailoring to my child's learning style, etc. That causes me too much stress.
The Distance Learning program really teaches to all different learning styles and so the Mom can use it to each child's advantage, which I try to do. I get to do the fun stuff with them - the stuff they like such as science experiments, art projects, cooking, etc. There is SO MUCH in DL that I had to get used to the fact that if we did everything, it would be too much!
I also like the fact that there are no lesson plans I need to develop, for me it is a matter of gathering materials and choosing what to do or not to do. For example, we haven't done the spelling classes because we find it easier to just do the worksheets and the kids do not need extra work in that area. We never skip Heritage Studies or Science because they like it and I don't want them to miss it! Sometimes we take a break from the reading lessons and I do a classic novel with them , like Misty of Chincoteague. If they have mastered a concept in Math, we skip additional lessons and review and move on. If they need more work in an area, we slow down. And the staff at BJUpress has helped me every time I needed it. I love it!Hi Chris,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share why you chose BJU Distance Learning, and what you like most about this homeschooling program. I agree! Finding curriculum that works with Mom, or the primary educator, is definitely a requirement when choosing materials for your home school. I appreciate your thoughts! Blessings, Heather :)
