Benefits to Homeschooling: Love Our "Expeditions"!

Benefits to Homeschooling: Alaskan Expeditions

Benefits to Homeschooling: Alaskan Expeditions

New homeschooling mom of three shares one of the great benefits to homeschooling...

I am a new homeschooler who has a soon to be three year old, a four year old and a five year old. We live in a rainforest in Alaska and can tell you firsthand, that the weather here can change from rain to sunshine to rain to fog back to sunshine in an eight hour period. :)

I LOVE the fact that as a homeschooling family, we can take off whenever we desire to go enjoy what little bit of sunshine we may get that particular day or week. :)

I love to tell the children that IF they were public schooled, they would STILL be sitting in school and unable to go on "expeditions" as we like to call our outings. We sometimes head up a mountain with our lunch or go to the beach and explore what beautiful creation God has blessed us with...or go hiking in the forest picking up lovely slugs, picking and eating salmonberries, blueberries, and huckleberries along the way.

I look at the weather daily to plan our day, and if it's going to be sunny in the morning, we head out the door, and I teach them in the afternoon after naptime! :)

Homeschooling is very flexible and am so thankful to God that He placed the idea of homeschooling on my heart way back when after my first child was born. I remind the children to thank God for our freedom to homeschool. I pray that we can continue for many years to come.

:)

What a wonderful story and testimony! The flexibility to come and go as you like - one of the best benefits to homeschooling. Your area sounds so beautiful - makes me want to move to Alaska! Happy Homeschooling! Blessings, Heather :)

PS I didn't know what a salmonberry was, so I looked it up and included a picture (above) so others could learn too!
