Beginning to Homeschool Kindergarten in Michigan

by Jessica
(Michigan)

Concerned Michigan mom is thinking about beginning to homeschool her kindergarten son...

I live in Michigan. I'm a stay at home parent with three children. My son started kindergarten today and I just think I can teach him better at home. He's adhd and I think nobody has patience like the mother. I was wondering how can I start?

Hi Jessica,
You can begin to homeschool your kindergarten son any time you'd like. You do not need to register with the state or fill out any forms. Just notify the school that you are going to homeschool him and that's it!

As far as homeschool curriculum, you may want to look into an easy-to-use homeschool unit study called Five in a Row. There are other programs you could use, but Five in a Row (FIAR) is so easy to find used and all you really need are books from the library. The lessons are short and hands-on, perfect for wiggly children with short attention spans. :)

You can find lots of Five in a Row curriculum reviews that will help you learn more about this program.

You will find lots of information in my Homeschooling for Beginners and How to Start Homeschooling sections of my website.

Hope this helps!
Blessings,
Heather :)
