Apologia Science Curriculum: Zoology 1 by Jeanne Fulbright

which one will fly the farthest?

My children are not science buffs, they like random experiments but nothing else. So this year for our homeschool science curriculum, we used Apologia Zoology 1, Flying Creatures of the 5th Day. My children loved it. I was concerned that they would be bored with only studying flying creatures but they weren't. They loved the insect chapters, bats, and pterosaurs.

The only real downside for us was trying to get in the insect chapters before it got too cold to find insects, if we do this book again with my younger son, I will definitely be starting it in May to go throughout the summer months.

We actually finished our science this year in a timely manner. Many times in the past we have had to finish science in the summer, or have even put it aside due to lack of interest or too much frustration.

I'm so excited to have found a homeschool science curriculum that is interesting, Godly based and my children love. While I'm not thinking they will be scientists, at least they will know and understand science enough to get through college.

In a few weeks we will start Zoology 2, Swimming Creatures with my 4th, 2nd and k-gardener. I'm really looking forward to another exciting and interesting year with them. The 7th grader moves up to Apologia General Science.

Wonderful review of Apologia science curriculum - I LOVE the pictures you added of your science lessons! Thanks, Heather :)

Exploring Creation With Botany: Apologia Science Review

Apologia Science Curriculum Review

Apologia Science Curriculum Review

Learn more about Apologia science curriculum, Exploring Creation with Botany, as well as a money-saving, memory-making idea.

I have used the Apologia science curriculum, Exploring Creation with Botany, for eight months with my children in grades 2, 3 and 4. I love to read this book aloud to my children, as we all learn fascinating things. Each time they beg me to read another page. There are quality photos to illustrate each section. The book looks like a high school text, but was made for elementary school. Many experiments and activities are suggested which are simple to carry out.

I enjoy this program especially because the content is new and intriguing to me. Most elementary science texts teach things I already know, so would be boring to use. I remember being bored with dull textbooks at public school, and am glad my children can have a different experience.

The children like to amaze their father at dinner time with astounding facts about botany that he doesn't know. They enjoy using the big vocabulary words in every day life. We began the year by sketching leaves and fruit. We enjoyed many field trips to collect specimens. We glued our collection of fruit and seeds to a board and added it to our museum. This spring, we are planning to sketch flowers.

The book may be purchased on Amazon for about $25. The accompanying workbook is unnecessary. My children prefer making their own pages by drawing pictures and writing summaries. At the end of the year, I will bind the pages into a book for about $2.

Nice review of the Apologia science curriculum! I love that you save money by having each of your children create their own book instead of purchasing the option workbook. You should post a picture of them for all of us to see! I am sure others would be interested in seeing how they turn out. :) Blessings, Heather

Apologia Science CD-Rom Course

Apologia Science Success!

Apologia Science Success!

I have been desperately trying to find homeschool science curriculum that my kids didn't hate. A friend of ours turned us on to Apologia, and it has been fabulous! We began using it in high school, so this review will deal only with high school level courses.

We use the complete course cd in lieu of the textbook option. Not only is it more economical, but the kids like using the computer to do their work. The cd runs on Internet Explorer so most students would be somewhat familiar with the layout of the pages.

One thing I love most about this curriculum is that the experiments can be completed using common household items. The only exception to this are the optional labs for the high school level courses. There are kits available to do these as well, but it is not necessary. The publishers are very aware that many homeschool families are one-income households so they design their curriculum with that in mind. Hence, you can complete a biology lab class without buying any expensive equipment. If you do choose to buy the optional lab kits, you can usually find them on eBay, Amazon, Christianbook, and the Apologia website.

The writer remembers that he is talking to high school students and keeps the language teen-friendly. There are also little encouragements sprinkled throughout the lessons that made me smile when I read them. (The cartoons are also really cute!) More than just a book on the computer screen, the cd rom has several videos available for the students to watch with a simple click of a button.

All in all, this is clearly the best science curriculum I have tried, and I have tried several over the years. Highly recommended - 5 stars!

Thanks for the great review of the Apologia science courses on CD - appreciate it! Blessings, Heather :)

Apologia Homeschool Curriculum Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology

by Cara Black
(Indianapolis, Indiana)

Apologia Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology elementary homeschool curriculum is nothing short of amazing! Following the Charlotte Mason method of reading then narration and keeping a notebook, students can purchase a notebook that has activities built in, or make their own.

The textbook is beautifully created, filled with pictures and illustrations, and there are experiments and hands-on activities that parent and child can do together with easy to find items. (You can also purchase a kit with everything you need to do all the activities separately.)

This curriculum is designed to do twice weekly, or at your own pace. We break it up into little chunks and do a portion everyday. My 10 year old son and I love, love, love this science course, and can't wait to get through all of them!

Cara, thanks so much for the Apologia curriculum review. I appreciate the time you took to help other parents; your comments are very helpful. Blessings, Heather :)

Apologia Homeschool Science Courses

Apologia Science Curriculum Review

Apologia Science Curriculum Review

Considering using Apologia science curriculum in your home school? Lara from MI shares some great insight and tips...

We have been using Apologia Exploring Creation Series for three years, and we plan to use the entire series.

The elementary books are fun and complete. The course uses a notebooking approach, which makes it fun interaction for the kids. There is a course website with templates you can print for your notebooks. All learning styles can do well with this curriculum, and it adapts well for multiple ages.

The junior/high school level is very complete. The text is well written, so the students can read it on their own. There are study questions to answer through out each module, a summary to complete at the end, and a test. By the time the student gets to the test, he should know the material well.

We have used the templates from Live 'N' Learn Press for the notebooking. Each question is a fun booklet, and all the booklets are pasted onto cardstock which is inserted into a 3-ring binder. At the end of the year, they have a notebook that is very interesting to go back through.

I highly recommend the Exploring Creation Series by Apologia.

Excellent review of the Apologia Exploring Creation Series, Lara! Thanks so much for taking the time to help other homeschooling parents learn more about this homeschool science curriculum! Blessings, Heather :)
