Apologia Homeschool Science CD-Rom Course

I have been desperately trying to find homeschool science curriculum that my kids didn't hate. A friend of ours turned us on to Apologia, and it has been fabulous! We began using it in high school, so this review will deal only with high school level courses.

We use the complete course cd in lieu of the textbook option. Not only is it more economical, but the kids like using the computer to do their work. The cd runs on Internet Explorer so most students would be somewhat familiar with the layout of the pages.

One thing I love most about this curriculum is that the experiments can be completed using common household items. The only exception to this are the optional labs for the high school level courses. There are kits available to do these as well, but it is not necessary. The publishers are very aware that many homeschool families are one-income households so they design their curriculum with that in mind. Hence, you can complete a biology lab class without buying any expensive equipment. If you do choose to buy the optional lab kits, you can usually find them on eBay, Amazon, Christianbook, and the Apologia website.

The writer remembers that he is talking to high school students and keeps the language teen-friendly. There are also little encouragements sprinkled throughout the lessons that made me smile when I read them. (The cartoons are also really cute!) More than just a book on the computer screen, the cd rom has several videos available for the students to watch with a simple click of a button.

All in all, this is clearly the best science curriculum I have tried, and I have tried several over the years. Highly recommended - 5 stars!
