Rod and Staff Homeschool Curriculum Review

Rod and Staff Homeschool Curriculum Review

I have been supremely satisfied with Rod and Staff Publishers for our homeschooling needs by and large.

I was first introduced to it when I received a collection of books my sister sent my young daughter. Included in these books she had come across was a first grade primer. The first word to learn was "God." On day two, "God made light." Day three, "God made the light. God made the sky." I was impressed! Not only that, but my three year old daughter took to it quickly. No, we did not complete the book at three, but when she was ready for school, I knew which curriculum I would choose.

Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum is Christian-based, with good themes, good instructions to help teach the material and my children enjoy using the material. They also offer music and art curriculum.

And if having a wonderful curriculum weren't enough, it is truly affordable. The curriculum can be purchased as you need it so you are not out hundreds of dollars at once, like with a number of curricula I have investigated.

The material is thorough and enjoyable. They have wonderful supplements, including their posters. They also sell planning books (although they aren't particularly targeted for homeschooling, they work) and report cards.

For people like me who are creatively challenged, but want to help your children make lapbooks or do unit studies occasionally, you can do so with this, as well.

I also used Rod and Staff material through high school for my older child. For very young children, they have Little Jewel books with good lessons that children love to have read repeatedly that are reasonably priced.

If you do need to supplement, particularly in older grades, Bob Jones University Press works with this really well and is a fantastic curriculum in its own right. The cost savings on Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum helps afford BJU material - or purchase either from other homeschool families on eBay.

Excellent review of Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum, Tamera; thanks for posting it for others! Blessings, Heather :)
