ACE Homeschool Curriculum Review

Homeschooling mom says what she likes most about ACE homeschool curriculum is the student-directed learning and cost to value ratio...

We began using ACE homeschool curriculum in 2001 for my daughter in second grade. We continued using ACE solely until she reached the high school level. I did feel we should have introduced different methods/types of materials before then, because she was initially overwhelmed by the size of the books entering into 9th.

Instead, ACE uses paces (work texts) and breaks the year down into bite size pieces for student directed learning. The largeness of the entire year in one textbook seemed too much initially for my daughter.

I really enjoyed that ACE taught and maintained "goal setting" and achievement. We enjoyed that it was somewhat inter-related with some subjects. It teaches students (without too much teacher involvement) to set goals and obtain those goals, that are realistic and attainable.

What I liked most about ACE homeschool curriculum is the student directed learning, and the cost to value ratio. Some say ACE is too "soft" for their liking, and some say it is very good in helping their children succeed at a higher level. It is mostly affordable up to 4th grade, because score keys are "mandatory" or not really needed for that matter. Most of the material is knowledgeable by the general, graduated, adult public in USA.

I would recommend not buying the score keys until the answers are too difficult for an average adult to answer/figure out. I began purchasing the score keys at grade 4 (beginning with pace 1037, I think). You can also find used score keys, but be sure the copyright and production dates are the same. Some curriculums change layouts and material introduction, so the older paces and new score keys, or vice versa would not "match".

Nice ACE homeschool curriculum review! I love your money-saving tips and think that other parents considering ACE Paces will appreciate your comments. Blessings, Heather :)

ACE Homeschool Curriculum: A Perfect Fit!

by Cynthia Beyer
(Moses Lake, WA)

Homeschooling mom of two teenagers shares why she chose ACE homeschool curriculum many years ago and why she continues to use it today...

I am a mom of two teenagers ages 14 and 15. I have been homeschooling them since my oldest was in the 1st grade. I tried private school but my son had some learning issues that were not being addressed. I went to a private school during my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades which used the ACE system (I loved it). I then had the great fortune of receiving ACE in my high school years which allowed me to graduate at 17.

When my husband and I decided homeschooling was the best course for our children I immediately thought of ACE, because of its self-paced learning system; it was the perfect fit. This system has allowed my children to become self-motivated and responsible young adults. They don't have to wait for me to assign them work, I am there if they need me but the paces have all the information needed to complete the assignment. I test them when they finish then hand out a new one.

I would recommend ACE for its God-based education as well as its accelerated education. When it says accelerated it means it, your children's annual required testing scores will prove it.

Great ACE homeschool curriculum review, Cynthia! Thanks for taking the time to help others; your thoughts are appreciated! Blessings, Heather :)

ACE Homeschool Curriculum Review: Nine Years of Success!

by Diana Bowman
(Noblesville, IN)

Homeschooling mom of three shares why she has used ACE homeschool curriculum for over nine years. Read her review...

We started out with ACE homeschool curriculum nine years ago because it was a K-12 curriculum that our church school utilized. I now have three children doing ACE in grades 9, 5 and 3.

ACE is very easy to use and I really like the 12 PACE's per subject. Each PACE has check-ups throughout to measure learning and a self test and PACE test to end the small workbook.

Each PACE has bible memory verses and character development included throughout. Missions is also a big emphasis through the grades. My kids love to do school.

The down-side I see is that from 7th grade on the curriculum is black and white in some of the subjects, which in contrast to previous subjects is not as inviting to learn from! I can see, though, that they are in the process of updating them, so I hope that can be done soon for my next two coming up. I would definitely recommend ACE to anyone wanting to homeschool.

Thanks for the review of ACE homeschool curriculum, Diana! I appreciate the time you took to help others. Blessings, Heather
