ACE Graduate Homeschools With ACE Curriculum
by Homeschooling Mom
(US)
I am a graduate of a Christian school using ACE curriculum in the 1980's. After high school I attended Pensacola Christian College where I received a degree in Music Education. I never felt unprepared for my college classes having graduated from an ACE school. I actually was an honor student.
I have graduated one daughter, using ACE at home. She is also a college graduate with a degree in early childhood education. She is a preschool teacher in a Christian school.
I am currently teaching 11th, 5th and 3rd grade at home. I use ACE curriculum mostly.
What I like most about ACE is its affordability and structure. I know what has to be accomplished in a day to finish the school year on time. The high school subjects are challenging and I admit I use a tutor for Algebra. Never my strong subject.
The beauty of homeschooling is that you decide what your children study. If literature is important to you and you find ACE weak in that area, you can always assign your own choices in literature. Same with any other subject.
I have observed other homeschooling families who flit from curriculum to curriculum trying to find the perfect one. My advice, is choose one and do it. ACE works for me with the grade spreads I have. I end the year knowing my children have completed all subjects in their grade level. I don't have to wonder what I will be doing next year.
Excellent ACE curriculum review and advice! Thanks for sharing about ACE from your unique vantage point as both an ACE graduate and homeschooling mom; I appreciate it! Blessings,
Heather :)Learn more about

Accelerated Christian Education (ACE Curriculum) Review
by John OReilly

Former ACE curriculum user shares why parents should think twice about using ACE homeschool curriculum in their home school.
Hey, my name is John. I see there have been mostly glowing reviews of the ACE curriculum here, so I thought I might provide a counterpoint. I used the ACE program at a Christian School in the 90's. It is mostly rote memorization that requires simply repeating answers found in the text. It will not develop creative thinking!
Another deficiency is the lack of a true literature program; this is an essential part of education, and it is a shame to miss it. ACE is a tempting option for home school parents who are not all that knowledgeable in the subjects the kids are learning, because it requires so little direct teaching. You're kids are precious though, and deserve the best you can give them. In my humble opinion, you can do much better than ACE.
Just for a little background, after I finished with ACE I tried A Beka, and it was like night and day! A Beka is a much more demanding curriculum, but the results are worth it. I have done well with it. After graduating I attended Cornell for undergrad and Yale for medical school, and I am currently practicing in the Boston area. I would not be where I am today without switching from ACE to A Beka. I strongly urge parents not to shortchange their children's education.
Great review, John! Thanks for taking the time to share your ACE curriculum experience with others. You're insight and words of wisdom are very helpful. Blessings, Heather

ACE Curriculum Review

I was homeschooled 9th-12th grades. We used only ACE curriculum. I am currently homeschooling my children (we began when my daughter was in Kindergarten) they are currently in 5th & 6th grades. We use ACE Word Building and English curriculum.
I like the ACE curriculum although I found some subjects boring in high school and a lot of the stories were a bit childish for the grade level. My children like the PACES because they can see their accomplishments that way, they know how many they've completed and how many they have left to go.
ACE does a very good job of teaching the skills without a lot of parent involvement. Also with the Word Building Paces I have my children write in notebooks instead of in the Pace itself so that it can be reused.
Thanks for helping other parents learn more about ACE homeschool curriculum; your thoughts are greatly appreciated! Blessings, Heather :)
