Abeka Homeschool Review

Affordable private school at home; read Tina's Abeka homeschool review and save money...

I think Abeka is a great curriculum that is recognized in every state. I have used abeka books for 4 years from grades k4 to 3rd grade this new school term.

I like Abeka because my children are learning at a grade above, receiving a private education at our home and not having to pay for the private school tuition for two children. Abeka is affordable even for kids in different grades.

When my kids were in grades 1&2 some ways I saved on cost were reusing some of the books like, history, science and other electives. The major books like arithmetic, phonics, and language I purchased for each because of the amount of writing in them. Use of sheet protectors is always a good idea too.

Thanks for the helpful Abeka homeschool review AND your money-saving tips, Tina! Many families can not afford private school and your post may encourage them to consider another option = home education. I appreciate the time you took to help others! Blessings, Heather :)

Abeka/Bob Jones K-5 Homeschool Review

by Rachel
(Ohio)

When I started my homeschool journey my daughter was 4 yrs old. I decided that I would start with Abeka K5 and use it over the next 2 yrs. It worked real well for us to stretch it out. As my daughter went into 4th grade I was introduced to Bob Jones curriculum.

The page lay out was more interesting for my daughter and seemed to keep her wanting to do her work. So we switched to all Bob Jones for her 4th and 5th grade.

My son started out with online school then 2 months into it, I switched him to Abeka then he'll will move to Bob Jones. Both I feel are excellent curriculums to use. Abeka I feel is better for the younger years, then move up to Bob Jones in or around 3rd grade.
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your experience with both Bob Jones and Abeka, Rachel! Blessings, Heather :)

ABEKA Review and Cost-cutting Tips

by Debi Leonard
(Clayville, New York, USA)

Homeschooling mom shares a helpful Abeka review and cost-cutting tips...

We have been using Abeka for five years, currently for grades nine, seven, six, and two. The kids and I really like it a lot. My second grader calls his math, "The fun math." The text books are rich in content and in full color with the Bible fully integrated throughout each subject. History comes alive with the map studies, the science books are loaded with fun projects and experiments to do. The kids are quizzed at least twice a week in each subject so you can really stay on top of what they're retaining, and/or what they may be lacking in. Every three weeks (approx.) they take a test covering the previous three weeks. Record keeping is kept simple with Abeka's Progress Report Forms.

Cost cutting tips would be that the textbooks can be used year after year. The workbooks, quiz and test books are consumable, when you have multiple children as I have, this really comes in handy. Also, they offer free shipping when you make your purchase at one of their hotel display meetings. That was a nice savings for us. Thanks, Debi

Religion based only?
by: Anonymous

Curious- can you follow the Abeka program and leave religion out of it - or is this strictly a Christian based home school program?

Thank you!

You could leave the "religion" out - I know some parents do, but I believe it would be really hard to as it/God is intertwined throughout many of the different subjects.
Blessings,
Heather
