ABeka Curriculum is Worth Every Penny!

by L.Sanders
(San Antonio, TX, USA)

Texas homeschooling mom says, "ABeka Curriculum is worth every penny!" Find out why...

I have had my kids in private school for several years and love the ABeka Curriculum. We recently decided to home school using the same curriculum through ABeka Academy and they are excited that they can continue the faith-based teachings that they get in school.

ABeka Curriculum has been proven to be more advanced than other schools. According to the state testing, my 3rd grader spells on a 9th grade level, reads on a 6th grade level, etc... I also have one in Kindergarten that is far ahead in reading skills and language. My 1st grader is prospering too. For $3000 for three grades it's worth every penny.

Thank you for taking the time to share your successful experience with ABeka Curriculum. Your thoughts will be very helpful to other parents who are considering this curriculum, OR who want private Christian education for their children but can't afford the hefty price tag. Blessings, Heather :)

New Jersey homeschooling mom shares why she has used ABeka curriculum for eight years...

Why do you like Abeka curriculum?
Abeka breaks down the lesson plans into details and for daily use.
How long have you used it?
I have used it for 8 years.
What grades did you use it for?
I used it for K - 5 and I plan to continue using it. I used it for my son from grades 1-5, and my daughters from K - 2.
What do you like most about Abeka?
I like Abeka because it is easy to assign the lesson plans to the days of the week.
Is it affordable?
Abeka is not affordable; it's quite pricey, especially when you have double grades to buy for.
Do you have any cost-cutting tips, etc. to share when using this curriculum?
My cost-cutting tips are going to book fairs and an organization called Book Samaritan (www.booksamaritan.org).

Thanks for sharing your experience with Abeka curriculum with others! Blessings, Heather :)

Abeka Curriculum
by: Wendy

Abeka is great. I used it also and I found that the cheapest way to buy it was Ebay. I got a lot of the books in great condition some for less than $5.00 including shipping.

There is also an Abeka support group and sometimes people list the books for really low prices and some are free.

Abeka Curriculum for Homeschooling

by Sari Croson
(Harpers Ferry, WV)

Homeschool mom recommends using Abeka homeschool curriculum when transitioning from private Christian school to homeschooling...

My children attended private Christian school for 13 years, and then we made the transition to homeschooling. They had used the Abeka curriculum with the Christian school, so we continued using that when we "came home". I was teaching multiple grade levels, and the lesson plans were laid out well. Abeka is very strong in grammar and math. I felt those subjects helped create good foundations in my children's education.

We have tried different unit studies, as well as other curriculum. We have enjoyed using other things, but have come back to the Abeka.

Thanks for sharing some great reasons to use Abeka curriculum, Sari! Blessings, Heather :)

ABeka Curriculum Kits: Grades 1-3 All Courses

by Dee Oliveira
(Dallas, Texas,USA )

New home educator shares a frustration when using Abeka curriculum kits...

At first I was very overwhelmed when I received my books from ABeka. Being a first time homeschooler with three different grades, there was a lot of material! Abeka's phone support was excellent and they were very patient! It took about a week to begin to understand what to do. At first I kind of did my own thing, then with the help of my husband it all clicked.

It's actually well laid out. The only con is that there is a lot of page flipping! I have read that on another review but never understood. For the teacher you need to flip through the book that describes what the child needs to do for that day. There are four parts to that book and it becomes confusing on the layout of the book and what sections are where. I understand it now and things are going smooth! There becomes a lot of seat work from 1st to 2nd grade. All in all, I would recommend ABeka.

Thanks for sharing your honest opinion of the Abeka curriculum kits, Dee. Your comments will help other parents who are considering Abeka for their family and know what to expect when they begin using this popular Christian curriculum. Blessings, Heather :)

Abeka Curriculum Review: Elementary Level

by Judith Karoleff
(Pinckney, MIchigan )

Michigan home educator shares some reasons to use Abeka curriculum; read her review...

I have used Abeka curriculum for the past year. I appreciate that is is set-up in a traditional way that keeps the students on track with others at this grade level.

The books are bright and colorful which helps keep the interest of students who can easily get distracted in a home setting.

I have found that the spelling can sometimes introduce more than one phonics rule making is confusing to some. I will sometimes break the list into two parts to teach each rule separately.

I like the way the math books introduce a concept then will have a review on later pages to help students build this new skill. The testing easily points out areas that may need review.

I chose Abeka curriculum because they have a good reputation with a long term commitment to quality Christian education. Using their material, I am confident that the children are advancing at the proper pace and receiving the necessary materials for each grade level.

Thanks for sharing your Abeka curriculum review, Judith! Your insight will be helpful to those considering using this curriculum with their child/ren. Blessings, Heather :)
